I was in Budapest for almost ten days. I was supposed to go to Prague in the meantime, but time and money got in the way.
And I didn’t mind. I was staying with a friend doing Erasmus there, and living the Erasmus life meant a lot of parties to attend.
Of course that also meant waking up late. And so it took time to see everything.
Budapest for me, was a little bit disappointing. Don’t get me wrong – it is one beautiful city. It has a lot of light, and incredible views. But I found it overall too amazing.
I tend to fall for smaller cities, with little alleys, and a disorganized charm to them. Budapest is said to be the Paris of the east.
Being part of the Austro-Hungarian empire for so long – I see Vienna in Budapest.
Of course – both Vienna and Budapest are incredible cities, and I can’t talk about Paris, but no one seems to complaint. Just not exactly my favourite kind.
I do see Budapest being highly underrated. It gets about one tenth of the tourists compared to Prague – and I can see so many people falling in love with this city.
The city is alive and has one incredible bar/coffee culture – which I am going to dedicate one post to. But the people are not really nice untill you get to know them – and the language is impossible. And with not a lot of people speaking english, communication is somewhat difficult.
Magyar’s are some of the most beautiful and ancient of our Western peoples.
And they have the most horrible history! And a very brutal recent history as well – which I guess is still very fresh in everyone’s memory.
Thanks for reading, and for commenting 🙂
Beautiful impressions of Budapest.
Thank you! and thank you for reading 🙂
wonderful pictures of a beautiful city! i really have to go there soon… it’s a shame i wasn’t there before since it is not too far away from vienna 😉
You definetly should! Especially considering the distance, and price! I think it is something like 3 hours by train – and no more than 25 euros return? (I might be worng about the price, but thought of going to vienna during my time in Budapest and was something like that!) – so no excuses 🙂
Thank you for reading 🙂
i know, it IS cheap to go there by train! but it’s on my bucket list for this year already 😀
I hope you can make it 😀
All are beautiful, but I especially like the bridge photos!
I have to admit all bridges in Budapest are very photogenic 😛
