New Mosque, Istanbul

Yesterday I went for a walk – again I saw the spice bazar and the Grand Bazar – both of which are slowly becoming some of my favourite places.

Just before starting to explore the Bazar – we entered a huge beautiful mosque – The new mosque.

We had the perfect timing – as we came in as a service was about to start, – and so we were able to see it.

The Mosque is incredibly beautiful, and the service was also very interesting and quite graceful.

The one thing I was very surprised, and to be honest a bit outraged about, was the fact that, not only do women have worst seats than men – but even tourists have better sits that women.

I think I will find a lot of this kind of discrimination – but still I find it simply ridiculous.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, and as always, you can click in all of them to open up a  the gallery.

  1. Hi Carlota – nice to see your pics of Istanbul – I’ve been here this week for a conference and it has been wonderful but your observation on women is interesting. I headed off out of town yesterday and didn’t see a single woman for the first half hour

    • Hi there! I hope you are still enjoying Istanbul!
In the mosque there were women, but all in the back corner and in front of them there were tourists (with a much nicer sitting area, I might add) but I think they are still very sexist here!
I hope that changes though because Istanbul is such an interesting and beautiful city! And I can imagina turkey has so much to offer!
Thank you so much for the comment 🙂

  2. I was surprised that they let you in at all. I was under the impression that services were for men only. Live and learn… 🙂

    • Thankfully women can get in – but I still that having them in the back, only after tourists – is simply wrong! But I guess I can’t really do anything about it :/

  3. I hope u’ll enjoy ur time in Turkey. If are in need of anything don’t hesitate to ask help.

Nice pictures and I’m sure that u’ll take more…

About what u said about discrimination; u’re right, unfortunately this is what we’re dealing with.

    • Thank you for the comment! I am loving Istanbul and can’t wait to see more of turkey!
About the discrimination – I hope it gets better, but also have the feeling that IStanbul is growing very fast!
